Anti-rejection medicine: Protecting your transplanted kidney from rejection

A kidney transplant may be a gift of a lifetime, but it comes with a lifetime of responsibility. One of the biggest risks following your transplant, for your entire life, is that your body may try to reject your transplanted kidney. Your body’s immune system protects you by trying to get rid of anything foreign, such as germs, poison, or cancer. Your immune system can’t tell the difference between “bad” foreign cells, such as germs, and “good” foreign cells, such as a transplanted kidney. So, your immune system may attack your new kidney. This is called rejection. Medicines that work to prevent rejection are called immunosuppressants; they work by “putting the brakes on” your immune system. You must take them exactly as your doctor directs. ENVARSUS XR is an immunosuppressant you take once a day. Talk to your doctor to see if ENVARSUS XR is right for you.
